Historical Milestones

1930

ORIGIN

Started as St.Antony’s reading room’ in church premises by a group of Coastal Youth.

1947

RENAMED

Shifted to Vaddy Junction and renamed as ‘Coastal Public Library; under the auspicious of CYMS

1948

AFFILIATION

Renamed in 1947 as Coastal Public Library and been affiliated to Grandha Sala Sangam

1950

OWN BUILDING

Foundation stone of own building (Eastern side of the road) was laid down by Sri. Paravoor TK Narayanapillai, Chief Minister of Travancore-Cochin on 12th February and completed by December

1963

EXPANSION

Foundation stone for separate buiding for reading room (western side of the road) was laid down on 15th July by Sri. Marcelene Fernandez, Secretary and completed by 1964

1972

SILVER JUBILEE BUILDING

Constructed a new building (western side) adjacent to reading room named as Silver Jubilee Building and inaugurated by Sri. Ambrose P. Fems, Exporter

1993

UPGRADATION

Upgraded as ‘Academic Study Centre’ by Kerala State Library Council

1998

GOLDEN JUBILEE

Celebrated Golden Jubilee with District – State Level Programmes

2020

CRASHED AND REBUILD INITIATIVE

Library building crashed in torrents on 27th May and foundation stone for reconstruction was laid down by Smt. Chandrakala S. Kammath, on 20th December.

2024

PLATINUM JUBILEE BUILDING

This present reconstructed building is inaugurated by Shri. _____ on 31st March and dedicate as Platinum Jubilee Building.
